What staying put buys you
A kitchen fitted in the nineties is still a kitchen we know. When somebody calls about a machine we installed twenty years ago, the answer is usually in somebody's head rather than a file. That is not sentiment — it is the reason a diagnosis takes a phone call instead of a site visit.
It also means the person who quotes your job is the person who shows up to it. At eight people there is nowhere for a job to get lost between departments, because there are no departments.
